AUTO AGE: STANDOFF FROM PHANTOM COMPASS DRIVES ONTO PC
GDC “Best in Play” Action Car Combat Game Developed in Niagara, Now Available on Steam for PC
Niagara, ON – September 21, 2017 – Drive full throttle into the award-winning, vehicular chaos of '80s cartoon style action game Auto Age: Standoff, released globally today on PC via Steam by local, independent video game developer, Phantom Compass.
Set in the retro future wastelands of New America, Auto Age: Standoff pits players against each other in online and local multiplayer battles for vehicular supremacy. To become the ultimate road warrior, players can customize vehicles with powerful weaponry that will enable them to launch missiles at enemy drivers, ram cars, lay mines and much more. Fueling the chaos is a retro-future dashboard mixtape and soundtrack, where guitar-shredding and synthwave music power a thirst for vehicular destruction.
Auto Age is Phantom Compass’s second original title since becoming a portfolio company at the Generator at one, an interactive digital media and tech incubator, powered by Innovate Niagara. This collaborative ecosystem in Niagara offers portfolio companies like Phantom Compass a competitive edge in bringing their products to commercialization. “It can be a surprisingly long and hard journey to make a game. You need a strong network to help tune all of the moving parts. The support we received from the Generator at one, local companies and students from Brock University and Niagara College was vital to get this game ready for the world stage,” says Ericka Evans, Head of Production at Phantom Compass.
In 2015, Phantom Compass was the recipient of Mayor Sendzik’s Future Leaders award. Through ongoing engagement with Brock University and Niagara College students within the interactive arts and science and game development programs, Phantom Compass is a leader in the growth of Niagara’s creative business community. Through the development process of Auto Age, students were part of the testing phases and provided their feedback, creating more synergy and collaboration in this developing ecosystem. “We’re extremely proud of Phantom Compass's local contributions to the interactive digital media & tech industry. They work with both Brock University and Niagara College, have team members that teach in their programs, engage students into their projects, and help advise their curriculum. They are always willing to contribute, mentor and share their expertise, which has led to a more robust local innovation ecosystem,” says Steve Boese, Manager at the Generator at one.
